Ciphare — Secure Temporary File Sharing

Capstone Project — Computer Science · 2024

Ciphare is a secure temporary file-sharing platform, built as the capstone project for my Computer Science degree and deployed live at ciphare.onrender.com. Files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and handed off as shareable links governed by a time-to-live and a configurable read limit, so a share expires either when the clock runs out or after the allowed number of decryptions. A Next.js 15 / React 19 frontend written in TypeScript and styled with Tailwind CSS talks to a Python/Flask backend, with MongoDB Atlas holding share metadata and Cloudflare R2 holding the encrypted objects, and a community posting feature lets users publish shares openly. The project takes inspiration from EnvShare, Hat.sh, CyberChef and OnionShare, and differentiates itself on three fronts — support for any file type rather than text or a single format, a Python backend that opens access to a much broader cryptographic library ecosystem including groundwork for post-quantum algorithms, and decryption limits the sender configures per share.
